Why is Verimi being discontinued?
We have developed the Verimi ID Wallet to enable users to store their digital credentials securely and share them on their own terms. Since 2019, Verimi has been a pioneer in Germany in making digital identities suitable for everyday use – for online identification, digital signatures and secure logins. The Verimi ID Wallet meets high security standards and the regulatory requirements for trusted digital identities.
With several million users and numerous partnerships, the Verimi ID wallet has achieved widespread acceptance in the market. At the same time, operating and continuously developing an ID wallet to this level of security and compliance involves considerable effort. The forthcoming regulatory changes in Europe and the introduction of new European standards are creating additional requirements, and we have therefore decided to discontinue the service at the end of 2026.
What happens to my personal data?
Once the Verimi ID Wallet has been deactivated, we will only retain personal data if we are legally obliged to do so – for example, to comply with statutory retention obligations under the Money Laundering Act and other applicable regulations. Data which we are not obliged to retain will be irrevocably deleted. Once the applicable retention periods have expired, the remaining data will be securely and permanently deleted. What will happen to my Verimi account?
Your Verimi account and Verimi ID Wallet will be permanently deactivated and can no longer be accessed or used. All personal data associated with your account will be handled as described below under ‘What happens to my personal data?’.
I want to delete my account/my data. How do I do that?
You can delete your data yourself from your Verimi account until the Verimi ID Wallet is discontinued. To do so, go to ‘Sign in’, log in using your Verimi credentials and click on ‘Delete account’. Then follow the further instructions.
Will I still be able to verify myself with Verimi after 2026?
Until the end of the year, you can continue to use the Verimi ID Wallet to identify yourself with participating partners. Once the Verimi ID Wallet is discontinued, you will no longer be able to use it.
Can I still use the Verimi app?
The Verimi app has been permanently discontinued and is no longer available. If you still have it installed, you can delete it at any time.
Is the identification I created using Verimi still valid?
Yes, if you have identified yourself using the Verimi ID Wallet with one of our partners, this remains valid. Similarly, any digital signatures you have created via Verimi remain valid.
