  • Samsung Electronics joins the cross-industry identity platform as a new shareholder

  • The world’s largest manufacturer of electronic devices supports Verimi’s mission to give users sovereignty over their data

Berlin, 16.01.2019. The identity and trust platform Verimi welcomes Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. as a new shareholder. The investment by the world’s largest manufacturer of electronic devices demonstrates the industry’s strong confidence in the identity platform’s state-of-the-art security architecture and will support the further development of the Verimi ecosystem in Germany and expansion across Europe.

“At a time when our digital identities are more important and vulnerable than ever, business and political leaders around the world must unite to develop robust platforms that protect users’ most sensitive information,” said Young Sohn, Corporate President and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of Samsung Electronics and Chairman of the Board at HARMAN. “We at Samsung are delighted to use our technological expertise and resources to support the Verimi mission to empower consumers across Europe and promote digital identity sovereignty.”

Commenting on the partnership with Samsung, Markus Pertlwieser, Chairman of the Verimi shareholders’ meeting, said: “The recent data scandals emphasise the need for platforms like Verimi to help protect users and give them more control over their digital identity. As the world’s largest manufacturer of electronic devices, Samsung’s support is a crucial win for Verimi and another relevant step towards more data security for millions of Europeans.”

Verimi puts people back in control of their personal data. They get a convenient and secure identity solution that integrates seamlessly into their digital lives. Personal data and credentials are managed and controlled by the user, while companies and public organisations are offered a European alternative to established login and registration systems. Samsung Electronics supports Verimi’s approach that users should always be in control of their own data and that companies should handle personal data fairly and transparently.

Samsung Electronics joins a group of twelve international companies from a wide range of industries that are helping to build the Verimi ecosystem. These include Allianz, Axel Springer, Bundesdruckerei, Core, Daimler, Deutsche Bahn, Deutsche Bank and Postbank, Deutsche Telekom, Giesecke+Devrient, Here Technologies, Lufthansa and Volkswagen Financial Services.

“Samsung’s support helps Verimi to develop a platform that adapts to the individual needs of each user and shows how companies can help to improve the security of digital data,” explains Stefan Imme, Chief Digital Officer of Volkswagen Financial Services AG. “Verimi simplifies customer login, also enhances our digital ecosystems in the Volkswagen Group and generates real added value for our customers at a central interface,” continues Imme.
