Verimi receives eIDAS approval for use in public administration

• The Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Construction and Home Affairs (BMI) and the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) evaluate Verimi in the context of the eIDAS Regulation.

• After being commissioned by the BMI, the BSI comes to the conclusion that Verimi “substantially” fulfills the trust level

• The Verimi platform is thus approved for use within the framework of the Online Access Act (OZG) to offer identification and authentication services for public administration

Berlin, 26.05.2020. Verimi takes the next milestone to offer more secure and trustworthy identification and authentication solutions in public administration. The BMI has positively evaluated the Verimi identity platform at the trust level “substantial” according to the BSI technical guidelines. For this purpose, Verimi uses the online ID card function (eID) of the ID card to read out the ID card via the smartphone and the Verimi app. The read identity data is securely stored in the Verimi platform and users can retrieve their data at any time for reuse for proof of identity on the Internet. For reuse, users conveniently authenticate via the Verimi app on iOS and Android devices.

Secure proof of identity for digital management

Verimi has had its identification and authentication solution for access to interoperable user accounts approved by the BMI. The BSI was commissioned by the BMI to evaluate the procedures used by Verimi in accordance with the Technical Guidelines TR-o3107-1 as well as TR-03147 and confirmed the trust level “substantial” according to the eIDAS Regulation.

Digital identity on the smartphone with Verimi

The goal of Verimi is to offer the derivation of the identity card as an electronic identity on a smartphone. Users can reuse their identity data, which they have deposited digitally once with Verimi, in a self-determined manner wherever digital proof of identity is possible and necessary. Verimi users receive transparency about who they have given access to their data. At the same time, the data is always individually encrypted and remains on servers in Germany.

The Free State of Thuringia is the first federal state to use Verimi as a secure registration solution for its citizens as early as fall 2019.
